Designing systems
Textile 2023 week 40 note
This past week I’ve put together what could be considered the alpha version of the design system. A design system can take many forms, with some notable example being Google’s Material and IBM’s Carbon. What they are can vary in taxonomy and structure, but are at their core, design standards. That is standard approaches to how interactions and interfaces are designed so that users have a consistent and good experience with whatever application you’re making.
I’ve taken all the screen designs of that have been created so far for instance for prototype user testing and standardising them with the intent to creating what is now the first draft of the Figma component library. This means that all the designs will look the same as all the components in use in our designs will be using the same design repository, including but not limited to colours, typography, headers, footers, form inputs and elements, layout grids and much more. This is of course a never-ending task as design systems invariably change and adapt to changes in use and feature sets, but we now have a firm design basis to begin growing not only Tableland Studio but many associated products and projects coming imminently.
